Wrexham Community Choir is calling out for new singers to join their weekly choir singing sessions at Wrexham's cultural centre Tŷ Pawb.
The choir starts its new term next Tuesday 26th April from 7.30pm – 9,00pm – no experience is required and is open to all – from experienced singers to those who only sing in the shower or who have been told they can't sing! There are no auditions, no solos and no need to read music.
Wrexham Community Choir, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary year, is led by Carol Donaldson who has a career of over 30 years in music – for theatre, television and radio and as a popular choir leader. A pupil of former Grove Park and Yale VI Form College, she has conducted over 1,000 singers at National Street Choirs Festivals and led mass singing at the Wrexham Singing Streets Choir events. Carol has also featured on Gareth Malone's BBC series The Choir and prime time television drama – Cold Feet. Her compositions have been heard in many rep theatres round the country. Carol Donaldson says
"We want to open our doors and extend a welcome to everyone to come and join us for a free try out session. "Most people think they can't sing but everyone has a natural voice! It's a great way to be with people, make new friends, to lift your spirits, de-stress and be part of a community. Singing is an aerobic exercise too and the proven health benefits include making all those happy endorphins. We all leave feeling very happy! We sing accessible songs from all round the world, from here in Wales to Poland, to South Africa and have recently added a Ukrainian song to our repertoire. This is a big warm hearted community and we look forward to welcoming new singers. "
"We've had an amazing ten years – the last 2 we've had to adapt to singing on Zoom and outdoors when the rules allowed during lockdown, but we've kept going! We began 10 years ago in the Wrexham Lager Club, creating such joy, connection, community and harmony and we've had many wonderful times singing at cultural, charity and community events in Wrexham, from St David's Day celebrations, Focus Wales, Llangollen International Eisteddfod, singing at the Racecourse as well as working with poets, artists and local and international musicians. We're looking forward to the next ten years and in the short term – to our first performance in over two years to support Wrecsam2025 – Wrexham's bid to become UK City of Culture 2025 at Tŷ Pawb on Friday 27th May. "
