Local family butcher leaves Wrexham after 136 years

October 21st 2022, 3:59 pm by Arran Hodges

Hugh John Jones Butchers is shutting up shop after 136 years.

It was announced on their Facebook page this morning. They posted a picture saying:

Dear customers,
After 136 years of Hugh John Jones we will be closing down our shutters and saying a fond fairwell to you all. We would like to thank each and every one of you for your loyalty over the years.
Goodbye from Giles, Louise, Harvey & Rupert.

They will be closing on Friday 28th of October.

It's prompted lots of comments from locals. Lots of people wishing the family the best for the future, thanking them for the work they did through COVID & an outstanding amount of people saying they will miss the butchers here in our city centre.

Hugh John Jones Butchers is based on Henblas Street and sells a range of goods, such as pork, lamb, beef and poultry. It was founded back in 1886 by Hugh John Jones and has been in the city ever since. It was initially based in the Butchers Market but moved to Henblas St in 2010.
