Last week reporter Allan Longshadow spoke to David Wilberforce, a Wrexham resident and lifelong fan of Wrexham Football Club, who began a podcast during lockdown.
The podcast, entitled Discussions with David, features guests from throughout the Wrexham and North Wales community as they discuss topics such as life, hobbies and work.
David, who records his podcast when he’s not working in the Yellow and Blue Community Hub on Henblas Street, began the project during last year’s pandemic because he felt inspired to find a way to make sure that those who experience learning disabilities had a chance to stay in touch with the community, at a time when almost all face-to-face activities had come to a halt.
“I really wanted to find a way to help connect the local community during these difficult times when it was really hard for everybody, especially the learning disabled, to get out and about and enjoy their normal connections.”
Longer-term, David’s ambition is to build on his experience with the podcast and eventually present his own radio show.
While he didn’t have the chance to meet Rob McElhenney or Ryan Reynolds during their recent visit to Wrexham, David is hopeful that one day he will have an opportunity to speak to the new owners.
“I’m a massive fan of Wrexham AFC and as a podcast presenter, interviewing Rob and Ryan would be the ultimate dream come true.”
